Frédérique Constant was founded in Geneva in 1988 by Peter and Aletta Stas, making it one of the youngest houses to establish itself within the Swiss watchmaking establishment. The brand built its reputation on what it calls "accessible Swiss luxury": mechanical watches finished to a standard associated with far older maisons, priced well below the traditional Geneva houses. Every watch is designed, developed and largely assembled in-house at the company's own manufacture, a rarity for a brand of its size and age. Since 2016 Frédérique Constant has been part of the Citizen Group, which has supported continued investment in its Geneva workshops.
