In the late 1930s two Portuguese merchants asked IWC for a wristwatch as accurate as a marine chronometer, which meant fitting a pocket watch movement, which meant a case far larger than the era found acceptable. At 44.6mm this execution reaches close to the size of the original oversized brief, keeping the railway-track chapter ring and slender leaf hands unchanged.
