The 9SA5 movement inside this Grand Seiko was a genuine engineering event: a dual-impulse escapement developed from scratch, a free-sprung balance, eighty hours of reserve and a beat rate of 36,000 vibrations per hour, all in a calibre slimmer than the one it replaced. Around it sits a steel case following the Evolution 9 proportions — shorter lugs, a wider dial opening — Zaratsu-polished by hand to distortion-free mirrors.
