The Top Gun programme gave IWC a brief no marketing department would have written: build a pilot's chronograph that survives the temperature extremes, pressure changes and accelerations of a US Navy fighter cockpit. The answer was ceramic — hard, matte, low-glare. A soft-iron inner cage shields the movement from magnetic fields, and the IWC-manufactured chronograph calibre is built for the same abuse.
