The dial is textured after the white birch forest that stands near Grand Seiko's Shizukuishi studio, stamped from a mould made by hand until the bark was right. Beneath it runs the 9SA5 — a calibre Grand Seiko designed from nothing, with a dual-impulse escapement and a free-sprung balance, beating at 5 Hz with eighty hours of reserve. At 40mm in steel, every surface Zaratsu-polished by hand.
