The Big Crown owes its name to a practical problem solved in 1938: pilots could not operate a normal crown wearing flight gloves, so Oris made one they could. This compact steel reference keeps that oversized coin-edged crown alongside a domed sapphire crystal and applied numerals sized for a cockpit glance. Independent and family-controlled from Hölstein since 1904, Oris has never been absorbed by a group.
