Montblanc's 1858 line takes its name from the year the Minerva workshop is understood to have been founded in Villeret, and draws on that manufacture's long history of rugged pocket watches and early expedition timepieces built for altitude and extreme conditions. The wider Montblanc watch range extends well beyond that heritage line to include the Star Legacy and Heritage families, covering both classic dress watches and more overtly vintage-inspired designs. Across the range, the common thread is Montblanc's ownership of genuine in-house chronograph manufacturing capability, unusual for a brand that built its original reputation in writing instruments.
