Founded in Rome by Sotirio Bulgari in 1884, the house built its early reputation on silverware and jewellery before watches became a significant part of the business. Bulgari's case designs have long drawn on Roman architecture and lettering, most visibly in the brand's use of bold, rounded typography and geometric bezel shapes rather than the more conservative case language typical of older Swiss houses. Since bringing Swiss manufacturing in-house via its Le Sentier facility, Bulgari has paired that distinctive Roman design vocabulary with genuine mechanical engineering credentials.
